Bruges: Where it Always Seems to be a Little Bit Christmas

Gorgeous Bruges

Bruges is just gorgeous.

I visited Bruges in February when the weather was still bitterly cold and the odd snow flurry punctuated the trip. It felt like a perfect fit for the city.

I remember telling Mr Holiday Addict how pretty it must be here in the run up to Christmas, when I imagined a multitude of sparkly twinkles from fairy lights would wink at you from all around.

And despite us visiting once the festive season had passed, there seems to be an all year round Christmas shop in Bruges which sells some of the cutest decorations I’ve ever seen. I’ve waited 10 months to post some pictures of them, but finally – ’tis the season!

Christmas Shop Window in Bruges

Like a kid in a sweetshop – that’s me in a Christmas shop (even when it’s not Christmas)

Cute Nativity

An unbelievably cute nativity.

Tree Decorations

Lovely tree decorations.

How Bruges does Bethlehem. (I want this.)

As Bill Murray said in the Christmas movie, Scrooged:

“You won’t be one of those who says Christmas is once a year and it’s a fraud…it’s not! It can happen every day…you’ve just got to want that feeling. And if you like it and you want it you’ll get greedy for it…you’ll want it every day of your life, and it can happen to you.”

Of course, that sentiment could and should apply anywhere, but I can’t really think of a more lovely place to have the Christmas feeling every day than in Bruges.

  • Beautiful shot of the canal! That is how I have always pictured Bruges looking. The city looks charming – I can imagine it is even more so during Christmastime. Belgium keeps climbing higher and higher on my list!

Belgium is really lovely. I can’t wait to return. Bruges is just gorgeous, but I’d really like to spend more time in Brussels, too. And then there’s Ghent, a place I’ve only heard great things about!

Brugges looks so pretty! I’ve only been to Brussels but would love to go there some time too! And I know what you mean about a place looking so Christmasy since I’m living in Germany, and there’s all these christmas markets everywhere!

    • Clare says:

Bruges is lovely for sure – but so is much of Germany! I’ll be there for some Christmas market action in a couple of days! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Belgium is another one of those places where you can eat yourself full!
Bruges has the reputation of being more beautiful than Brussels. The latter has vast ghetto-like areas and honestly, I expected more from it…
I love your top photo 🙂

I would like to have a longer stay in Brussels to try to get to know it a little better, but Bruges is so lovely! I really liked so much about Belgium (food and beer included naturally) and I’d really like to visit Ghent and Antwerp too. Thanks for stopping by!
