Do you have a full time job but wish you could travel more? Do you find yourself dreaming of destinations, but never visiting them because there’s never enough time or money? If you had to show someone your hometown, would you feel like a bit of a fraud because you’ve never really explored what’s on your own doorstep? Yes? Sound familiar even a little? Then this is the challenge for you.
I had the idea for the #take12trips challenge one morning on my way to work. I was sat in my car, stuck in traffic (in the rain obvs – I live in Manchester dontcha know), wondering how I could mark the one year anniversary of starting my blog. I wanted to do something that would push me to keep travelling, to keep making the most of that precious time off work, but also to do something that just might inspire others with full time jobs to do the same.
There are lots of blogs written by people who’ve ditched full time careers in favour of nomadic lives, but that’s not me. I like my home and (gasp) I like my job. I take comfort in the word “stability” and I’m not ashamed to say it. But I still love to travel. I still love to do stuff; to see stuff. To work to live rather than live to work and all that. So I set to work, and starting from September 2013 when Need Another Holiday turned one, I decided I’d #take12trips in 12 months. And I did it – even though I fell pregnant and ended up dealing with my fair share of sickness and flight restrictions. Read my second blog birthday post to find how how I fared.
The best thing about #take12 trips for me though, hasn’t been my own travels (who’d have thought?). It’s been the travels of you out there. All of you who embraced the challenge and are continuing to do so. You’ve blown my mind and together we’ve all created this little space on the internet for inspiring others and sharing adventures. It’s brilliant. And it goes on.
On January 1st this year, I was overjoyed to read a post on the The Travel Hack – How to Travel More in 2015 and now I’m really looking forward to following more take 12 trippers. So if you’re reading this thinking, I fancy a bit of that action, here’s a list of posts from the people who’ve already been there and done that – and by the looks of things, loved every minute.
From England’s Lake District, to a wedding in Russia – it’s all here.
My favourites from Lucy? Her adventures in cruising. And the stunningly beautiful Norway.
Without doubt, Kirsten’s Canadian adventure will inspire your wanderlust!
I enjoyed all of Cathy’s trips – she’s the one who’s showing me how to do my travel thing with a wee one in tow!
Take a trip to Taiwan? Why not?
I got some fabulous ideas for UK travels here. With a touch of glamour, obviously!
No year would be complete without a trip to Paris!
Singapore anyone? Or how about Goa?
Plenty of Spanish travel inspiration here. My faves? Bilbao and Valencia – places I’ve long fancied visiting.
Now, if you still need some help in stepping up from that sofa to find your get up and go, here’s some more advice from me:
